Scribd: Netflix for books

Recently I checked out Ryan Holiday’s website (author of Ego is the Enemy), as I wanted to sign up to his book recommendations list.

While doing so I had a read of one his articles, which talked about his top book recommendations from 2018. At the bottom of the article he made a suggestion to try out Scribd,  which is basically unlimited ebooks and audiobooks all in one app for one low monthly price.

This was a revelation for me, because I was thinking about how much I would end up spending on audiobooks with my goal to read 200 books in a year. The costs were already racking up, but I vowed to proceed regardless.

Scribd is a site that I had heard of before, but I didn’t know that they had a subscription service for books. When I set my 200 book goal, I tried to search for something similar, but I struggled to find anything worthwhile.  So you can probably guess how excited I was when I stumbled across this beauty.

The great thing about it, is that you have access to books, audiobooks, documents, articles and even sheet music within one monthly subscription. Therefore, if you are keen to read at least one or more books a month, it is definitely cost effective.

Amazon in comparison, has a much wider book selection, but Scribd is a much  cheaper option.

Personally, I have opted to use both, as there are some books that I really want to read that aren’t available on Scribd. However, if you are not fussed about that, Scribd is definitely a viable replacement.

I hope you find as much joy from it as I did. Happy reading 🙂
